Graben surgeon Carl Ludwig Raicher was born 16 May 1775 to Friderich Wilhelm Raicher (1734-1804) and Magdalena Metzger (1738-1818). Dr Raicher married Margaretha Lind 25 April 1797 and they had 10 children from 1979 to 1814.. FS ID: K8Z3-P69 Carl is related to us through the Wenz family. According to pastor T L Sachs: On the 15th of October 1814, in the afternoon after 1:00 pm died in the local parish of Graben: Carl Ludwig Reicher, citizen and surgeon here, 39 years and 5 months old, and was on the 17th [of October 1814] in the morning buried.
Mistake: In 1803 Carl Ludwig Raichard, citizen and surgeon and his wife Margaretha, née Schollin are sponsors or witnesses to Jacob Scholl's, (citizen and innkeeper (serving wine) at the sign of the bouquet) daughter. I believe the pastor made a mistake because Margaretha née Scholl was his mother-in-law. Ludwig's wife namely Margaretha Lind's parents were Jacob Lind (1744 - 2 April 1780 ) and Jakobina Margaretha Scholl (1752-1823). Margaretha's husband and surgeon died 9 years before her own mother. This is because Ludwig died at 39 years 5 months. Apparently being a surgeon in Graben is not good for your health. No reason is given for Ludwig's death in his death record.

Note from Wikipedia: Bader , also called Stübner , Latin balneator or female balneatrix ( bathwoman ), is an old job title for the operator or employee of a bathhouse . The profession has been known since the Middle Ages . On the one hand, barbers were the " doctors of the little people" who could not afford any advice from the doctors they had studied. On the other hand, they were important assistants to the academically trained medical profession up until the 18th century (see position and rights ). Like the field shears , they practiced a highly respected, although scientifically accredited, healing profession . It included bathing, body care , cosmetics and sub-areas of surgery , dentistry and ophthalmology . For example, the area of activity included cupping and bloodletting as well as the care of smaller wounds. often worked in the bathhouse barber , who was responsible for cutting the hair and shearing the beard. From these professions, which are sometimes difficult to distinguish, developed the craft , later surgeon .
More: The social status of the barbers changed over time. Since they touched the sick, wounded and those in need of care, in some places they belonged to the so-called "dishonest" professions [1] that were not allowed to organize themselves in any guild . In the urban estate societies of the Middle Ages , children from barber families were usually excluded from being admitted to other guilds . It was not until the middle of the 16th century that imperial laws of 1548 and 1577 gave them the opportunity to learn another trade. [2] The bathing room was generally known as a place of prostitution , which was tolerated by the authorities despite sometimes eloquent sermons for sexual chastity. [3] Cardinals , who made money from prostitution themselves, were just as well known as the fact that this human need could not be controlled with prohibitions. Augustine judged early on: “If you suppress prostitution, careless lust will corrupt society” [4] , because they were seen as an outlet for worse escapades by the increasing mass of those who had no opportunity to marry for reasons of class or guild.
