Rent Seekers
Rent seeking is when minorities or groups of people or people with a special interests ask government for special consideration in the form of protection or money. Our nation is full of these rent seekers. They take the form of unions, businesses, welfare recipients, drug companies, people on disability, the military and thousands of other groups. Why is the area around Washington DC the richest in the nation? Because that is where the money is being passed out. When a private business doesn't do well they go out of business. When a government agency doesn't do well, they either double the size of the agency or throw more money at them. The Peace Corps has 7,000 volunteers. There are 3,500 government employees supervising them. We need to get back to what the framers of the Constitution had in mind when they set up the government. It was not a welfare state.
