We now believe Elizabeth Kolsch (German Spelling) or Kelsch (English spelling) was born in Rheinbayern, Prussia. Rheinbayern is a cultural area, sometimes referred to as Pfalz. The Kingdom of Bavaria had a large centeral area with an unattached area to the west called the Pfalz. Bavaria was under Prussian rule in the middle of the 19th century.
Zion and St. Mark's originally were two separate German speaking Lutheran congregations in New York City. St. Mark's was located on the Lower East Side in Manhattan, where German immigrants had founded it in 1846 to have a home for their faith. German Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Mark is a historic church and synagogue building at 323 East 6th Street between First and Second Avenues in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City.
