Vincent Becker 1927 - 2017

Obit: Vincent C. Becker, age 90, of Odessa, TX, passed away on Thursday, September 14, 2017 in Odessa.

Vincent was born May 4, 1927 to Otto and Alma Becker in Falls City, Nebraska. When Vincent and his parents moved to Odessa in 1941, he attended Odessa High School and later graduated from John C. Fremont High School in Los Angeles, California.

Vincent married Ann R. Sanders on June 4, 1966 in Odessa at Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Loved ones who preceded Vincent in death include his parents, his twin brother, Victor and stepson Alan Sanders.

Those left to honor his memory are his wife, Ann, sister in-law, Rosie Becker, cousins, Lucille and Gerald Harold, Dave and Ramona Scholl, Don Scholl, Margie and Loyal Ingersoll.

Vincent served in the United States Army at the end of World War II in Germany. After serving his country, he enrolled at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and completed his Bachelor's Degree in Education at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX. He taught seven years in Abilene where he received the ''Teacher of the Year'' award. He earned his Master's Degree in Education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.

Vincent returned to Odessa to assist his parents in their neighborhood grocery store and taught sixth grade at Lamar Elementary School before transferring to Reagan Elementary as a sixth grade teacher. He completed his years in the classroom at Travis Elementary before becoming an elementary consultant. Vincent finished his career as a technology specialist with ECISD teaching teachers and school staff members. After 37 years of teaching, he and Ann retired, he then developed a program with six levels teaching senior citizens how to use a computer. Seven years later a stroke ended this phase of teaching. He encouraged young people to get as much education as possible.

Vincent and Ann travelled on group tours to various locations in the United States. Many places were seen when they travelled by automobile with friends or relatives.

Vincent enjoyed puns, reading, gardening, baking, building a gazebo and a pergola, refinishing furniture, and designing and constructing clocks. He was a member of Permian Basin Genealogical Society and Texas Retired Teachers Association.

A Memorial Service will be at 4:00 pm, Monday, September 25, 2017 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Jimmy was a former sixth grade student in Vincent's class.

Letter

Hi Kent,
I received a call from Ann Becker this afternoon to let me know her husband, Vincent Becker passed away Sept 14, 2017.  He was cremated today and his memorial service will be Monday, Sept 25.

Vincent is a 2nd cousin once removed to most of us on the Scholl side.  His grandmother is Lydia (Scholl) Becker who is a sister to my great grandfather, Frederick Scholl.

He has been at Madison Medical Resort for about a 6 months.  He did have a stroke several years ago and another one in March and another one (TIA) at Madison.  He recently had double pneumonia and very uncomfortable and hard to breath.  Ann said he was ready to go.  Unfortunately they have no family there in Odessa, TX where they live.  They had no children.  Ann had a son from a previous marriage but he has also died.  Vincent was 90 years old May 4.  Vincent and Ann had been married 51 years June 4.
