Don Van Slooten passed away
peacefully on Wednesday, November 9, 2016. He was born of goodly parents
(Eunice Christensen and Henry Van Slooten) on December 22, 1927 in Bancroft,
ID. He graduated from Los Angeles HS and BYU.
Throughout his life, he
served others at home, at church, and in the US Navy. He loved the gospel of
Jesus Christ and exemplified the Savior's teachings throughout his life. He was
decorated for his heroism as a Navy pilot in the Korean War. He served as a
missionary and then as Mission President (1962-65) in the Netherlands and later
worked in the nursing home industry for many years.
He is survived by his 7
children - John (Nancy), David (Jill), Paul (Jennifer), Julie (T.G.) Larson,
Chrissy (Jeff) Morgan, Joanna (Justin) Heiden, and Peter (Miranda); and 29 of
his 31 grandchildren. He was welcomed in heaven by his parents, 4 siblings and
2 grandchildren.
Viewing on Friday, Nov. 18
from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8:30-9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral
Service at 10 a.m. at the River Ridge LDS Stake Center - 10190 S 1000 W, So
Jordan, UT
Don's favorite charity was
the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
