Obituary for Orvill E Dastrup
Orvill E. Dastrup, age 93, of Grants Pass, passed away September 8, 2016.
The oldest of four children, he was born April 13, 1923 in Denver, Colorado to Thomas & Zina Dastrup.
Orvill joined the Navy in 1942 and served for six years. He also served a two year mission for his church in what was then called the “Southwest Indian Mission.”
On September 18, 1953, he married Shirley L. Frost. Four boys and one girl were born to them.
He was active in his church and served in many capacities from scouting to being a bishop and temple worker.
In 1980 he came to Oregon and built a family home, got his pilot’s license at age 70, then at age 80, he bought a Honda Shadow motorcycle.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years; his five children, Steven, Linda Ameling, and Mark, all of Grants Pass, Timothy and Thomas Dastrup of Southern California; ten grandsons, one granddaughter and 11 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
A viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Relief Society Room.
A funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1969 Williams Highway, Grants Pass. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
