SYRACUSE - Betty Brough, 89, died Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Davis Hospital in Layton. She passed away peacefully in time for a Valentine's Day reunion with her sweetheart.
A long-time resident of Ogden, Mrs. Brough was born January 17, 1924, in Avon, Utah. She grew up in Hyrum and graduated from South Cache High School.
On May 7, 1951, Mrs. Brough married C. Denton Brough in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Richmond, California, and in Portales, New Mexico, before moving to Ogden.
Mrs. Brough worked as a telephone operator in Logan and retired after working 20 years at the IRS Service Center in Ogden.
Most recently a member of the Syracuse Second Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mrs. Brough served faithfully in a variety of church callings, including leadership and teaching positions in Relief Society, Sunday School, and Primary.
Mrs. Brough is preceded in death by her husband, Denton, her parents Jarvis Milton Burrell and Edna Louie Hopkins, her step-father James Lauritzen, her brothers Lynn Burrell and J. Milton Burrell, and her sister Marion Downs.
She is survived by sons: Dwight (Susan) Brough of Bedford, TX; Gary Brough of Ogden; daughters: April Brough of Layton; Susan (Mark) Griffith of Syracuse; and "adopted" son Jack Bingham of Orem.
Betty Brough's life and legacy lives on in 11 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 step-great-grandchildren, and a host of others who fondly called her "grandma".
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at the Syracuse Second Ward Chapel, 2228 South 1660 West, Syracuse, Utah. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy, Utah, and on Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., prior to services at the church.
She will be buried Tuesday, February 19, 2013, at 2:30 p.m., at the Avon Cemetery in Cache County.
