Hi Kristina.
I know this family. In fact the young John MASTERTON is the very one who later married Janet (Jessie) WESTWOOD (and later Elizabeth WYLIE or WILLEY),
who is an ancestor of Janice and David. They too will have the following info and can correct any of my errors.
John is one of twelve (that I've found - although one may be suspect) children born to John MASTERTON and Janet (Jessie) CANT married 7th September 1821 in Bo'ness (a small town on the south bank of the Firth of Forth upstream of South Queensferry and downstream of Grangemouth). Long name Borrowstounness). John was a boatman on the Stirling to Granton steamer and later Shipmaster.
John was the eldest son of Adam MASTERTON and Cecilia BLACK (married 1799 Edinburgh).
I'd say your Margaret CASE is actually Margaret CANT, Janet's mother. Maiden name TULLOCH who married Richard CANT
Adam and Cecilia had ten children (ie siblings of John b 1801 as you request).
They were:
John (your apprentice!) b 13 2 1800
Adam b 15 1 1802
William b 20 10 1804
Peter b 20 10 1804 (twin) died 1805
George b 17 11 1806
James b 6 9 1808
Marion b 24 10 1810
Peter b 25 8 1814
Cecilia b 3 8 1815
David b 2 2 1818

Carol,
I can't answer that without a few more clues!!
The Elizabeth WILLEY who married John MASTERTON was a daughter of Robert WILLEY and Janet CHRISTIE.
She died in Inverkeithing in 1899 aged 67.
THis was her second marriage, the first being to Andrew ADAMSON.
Elizabeth and Isabella are sometimes interchangeable.
That's all I can think of.

Hi Joyce,
William Masterton (b 1864 in Torryburn, Fife) was the son of John Masterton and Janet Westwood. His wife Catherine Hutton was married to William on 4 June 1886 in Dunfermline and was the daughter of William Hutton and Catherine Nicol . I can go back a few more generations on the Masterton side if your interested, but don't have any more info on descendants, except I believe that Sharon Hill from California is connected through the Catherine Nicol Masterton daughter.
Best regards,
Gordon Masterton

I can trace back to James MASTERTON who married Rachel WARDEN in Cramond in 1733.
Three generations later, George MASTERTON married Frances (Fanny/ Ann) SHAW in 1831 in Edinburgh and moved to Dunfermline where Frances's father John SHAW was a wright..
