Born 28 October 1919, Salt Lake City, Utah

Daphne graduated from the LDS Hospital School of Nursing in Salt Lake City in 1940. She joined the United States Army Nurse Corps in 1941. During World War II she was assigned to the South Pacific and was Utah’s senior nurse from point of service. She served for 5 years. “Those who met her never forgot her,” as quoted from her sister, Barbara.
She married Bernard H. Moncrief and they had three children. After her death he remarried Gwendolyn Carmel Carlson (1930 - 1993). Bernard died a year later in 1994.

I put together a notebook about Daphne two years ago for Pamy, Steve, and Gilbert. It contains some pictures and copies of several letters from her during WWII to William and Margaret. She was very close to them. Unfortunately, her death, ended the happy childhood the three children could have had. She was an outstanding woman. Pamy loved the notebook. I read the letters to Steve. Gilbert's wife and I have always been curious about the family. I also gave them America's Choir by Heidi Swinton.
One Christmas, we gave each of our children America’s Choir, by Heidi S. Swinton and added this message which will answer your question:
Please note that there is a list at the back of this book containing the names of those who have been members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Margaret Amelia Gedge is Dad’s great grandmother. She was married to William Reams Gedge and they had a productive farm in Salt Lake City. Their address was 2198 South Redwood Road. Margaret was known as Monie (long o sound) and loved by all. William R. Gedge was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 84 years old. He was given a blessing by Harold B. Lee, that he would be cured, that he would be well and strong, and that he would see many great changes take place. He died in April of 1964 at the age of 96!
As side note: George and Rachel bought their home on Indiana Avenue from Harold B. Lee. George dug a basement to it by hand with pick and shovel. It was the best place to sleep in the summer! Grandpa George told me that William planted 5 acres of corn by hand the year before he died. Or was it 50 acres? I need to review that story, which I have in his voice on tape.
Marriage for time only.

1950 death:
Daphne died of a PE - pulmonary embolus. She was 7 or 8 months pregnant with Gilbert who was delivered by emergency C-Section. He was blue from lack of oxygen but lived. She died the next day. TM
A pulmonary embolus is most often caused by a blood clot in a vein, especially a vein in the leg or in the pelvis (hip area). The most common cause is a blood clot in one of the deep veins of the thighs. This type of clot is called a deep vein thrombosis (DVT). The blood clot breaks off and travels to the lungs.
